Extra Credit Halloween Assignment

I finally found time to shoot this! My Dad and brother came with, and insisted on wearing a top hat.... enjoy.

So this is the first shot I made. It was like, 8:30, so it was pretty dark, so the shutter speed was REALLY slow, and he was just walking, but as you can see, he barely showed up at all!

Next, I had him just sway slowly back and forth behind the tomb stone. I like how it turned out!

Dad was just jumping up and down, It's kind of cool though

He was pretending to walk in place...

Swaying again. I like it. I also like the composition of the telephone pole in the foreground

I really like this one. I brought the camera down to eye level, and shot it. The motion of the flag is cool as well

this one's ok, he's blurry in the background

This is cool. He's like a ghost placing flowers on a comrade's grave!

this is the last shot I took. I had my brother and dad walk slowly around it, and this is what turned out. I think it's really erie

Here's some black and white conversions:

Assignment #4- Color Theory

I'm not gonna lie, I did not like this assignment. I found it very difficult to shoot pictures that I liked and that were good. Hence, not very good shots. Im dissapointed with these. Even though I reshot a lot, I barely had time, so I was rushed, and I focused more on finding complementary and analogous colors than making good shots (with good light and composition.) I apologize for lack of creativeness.

This is the only shot I like. Besides the brown, it is analagous, with the yellow and green. I really like the lighting. It's natural light too!

The yellow and green are complementary. It's a cool concept, I think, with filling the frame with the leaf. But, it's just a little soft. I did sharpen it some, but it didn't make much of a difference.

This would be my second favorite if I had to choose one. It's cute, and in focus, and the blacks look nice with the editing I did.

Don't like this. don't even want to comment. but, it is complementary.

These are analagous...ish.... I like the colors

I don't love this shot either, it's a little soft

I know, I know, I did a lot of leaves, but I love fall! and I thought it was cool that there were leaves that were complementary, like these.

This has potential, but it didn't turn out that great. The lighting is ok, so is the focus.

more leaves...yeah...

Analagous! Not the best shot though

more of the same.

Even thought I was outside, the lighting is not very good. Even with the editing, it doesn't 'pop'
So, I'm really sorry for the lack of good photos, (I'm relying on the extra credit assignment to help me!) Next time will be better I promise, because I now have actual free time. Liked the monochromatic one though!

Irving Penn...?

So, you did mention last Friday that we were going to have to do an assignment, in conjunction to shooting some more, on Irving Penn, due to something that happened to him recently. I looked at the school blog and found no instruction for this assignment, so I'm sitting here debating if I should do this or not... but I will just to be safe. If you look at my older posts, you will find I did an assignment for Mr. Patteson's class last year on Irving, so that will give you more info.

Turns out he just died on the 7th at age 92 in his home in Manhattan. He will be missed. His photography will definitely be remembered.
I was first drawn to the late Mr. Penn because I LOVE his fashion photography, when he worked with vouge. It's very dramatic, and gorgeous. for example:
I love love love this photograph. It's awesome. It's so simple, yet really very intricate once you look closer. I love the netting around her face. Beautiful.

This is a portrait of one of my favorite authors, Truman Caopote (In Cold Blood is amazing- read it.) I love the light in this photograph, and his expression is so intense. Just the way his hands are positioned are so cool.

RIP Irving Penn.

Assignment 2 1/2 - Before and After

Before:

After:

I love this picture. The change I made wasn't too drastic- I just made it brighter and gave it more detail. I made the exposure brighter to brighten the highlights, then did a little recovery, and moved the shadow curve just a tiny tiny bit to bring out the detail in the wrinkles. It looks a lot better, I really like it.

Assignment #3 - Monochromatic

I liked this assignment a lot. I loved finding things to shoot that were monochromatic, and I love the way monochromatic shots turn out in general, they're so cool! Out of these 12 shots I actually like most of them, which rarely happens. Instead of having one favorite, I really like a good handful of them. I didn't have a lot of difficulty finding subjects to shoot this time. I spent most of the time in the kitchen. Food is really easy to do, you just find a solid colored food and put it with something else of that same color. I tried not to do too much food, so it doesn't get repetative. After the minor editing, I'm really happy with how these turned out.

If I had to choose a favorite, this would be the one. These are carmels covered in butterscotch.. i think... anyway, it just so happens that they are exactly the same color as this table! I was really excited when I found this out, and I took a lot of shots of it, but this is my favorite. I like how you can vaguely see the reflection in the wood. Also, the focus is really sharp, which I love.

I also really like this one too, it's one of my favorites. The focus is sharp, and with the editding, the color is really...vibrant. The natural, outside lighting is really nice too.

This is a shot I did this past weekend, shooting for the second time, because I needed more pictures. I like the color of the watermelon, and how it fills the screen. It's simple. Not my favorite, but nice.

This is another of my favorites. This was one of the rare subjects that's not food, but still looks cool. The natural light is nice, and I love the detail in the creases of the napkin. The blacks in the creases are cool too.

This one is cute. That's the word I'd put to it :). The focus is nice, and so is the light

Not one of my favorites, but monochromatic and nice shadow.

I love the color orange, by the way. This shot isn't fully monochromatic if you count the silver of the wires... but orange enough.

I don't love this one either. The light it kind of flat, and it took some more editing to make them kind of 'pop', even though they still don't... I didn't want to refine it too much.

Orange! One of my favorites. I must admit, the light was a little flat, but with the 'refineing', I made them stand out more.

These are dish washing gloves, close up. I like the detail.

This is kind of interesting. The green of the cans is really similar to the grass, which makes it cool.

This is probably my least favorite. I don't know why, I'm just not drawn to it like the others. It's nice... just not great.

Overall, I'm happy with this assignment, and had a lot of fun shooting it.
